Helen Oyeyemi, Nigeria-born and raised in London, is adept at sneaking politics palatably into her writing, and in She flicks through some of his recent stories and takes umbrage at female characters sawing off their limbs, bleeding to death and hanging themselves from door handles over a burned dinner.
